USA TODAY reports that nearly 2000 US army vets have started to arrive at the Dakota Access Pipeline protest camp in North Dakota. They have arrived with the intention to form a “human shield” around the water protectors, given the violent police force that is defending the desecrating construction company.
Thousands of protesters have been fighting to halt the impending construction of a $3.8 billion oil pipeline which would desecrate lands sacred to the Standing Rock Sioux and threaten the health of local water supplies.
There have been open violations of human rights by the police force with their intimidation tactics, setting attack dogs on protesters, sexually humiliating and arresting hundreds on trumped up charges.
This failed to cause a stir in the protesters spirits and they stayed strong. The police then escalated the violence last week when they deployed tear gas, concussion grenades, and rubber bullets into the crowds of resisters.
One protester had her arm partially amputatedafter a shell brutally tore her muscles apart and another may lose her sight from the tear gas. This was followed by attacks with water cannons in sub-zero temperatures, causing hundreds to be treated for hypothermia.
The police have now announced they will be blocking food and medical supplies from reaching the protest camp and have ordered them to disperse by December 4th. Tribal leaders have rejected the evacuation order and will not back down.
A two legion strong group of veterans, some having walked hundreds of miles to reach the site, will “self-deploy” themselves in a “human shield” to protect the innocent protesters.
Service veterans spokesperson Ashleigh Jennifer Parker said in a statement:
“We want to offer them a moment of peace and, if we can, take a little bit of pressure off. People are being brutalized; concussion grenades are being thrown into crowds. They’re spraying people, even old women, and other elders of the tribe with tear gas and pepper spray and all of this is just unconstitutional. I can’t believe the media hasn’t taken more of an interest in this.”
Over the last couple of weeks, unconstitutional brutality has been playing out in North Dakota, so we are so thankful for our brave veterans and their determination to help.
If you’d like to donate to the veterans at Standing Rock, you may do so here! They’ve almost raised 1 million dollars from the people in just 20 days!
Also Dr Mercola and I just saw our friend, activist and world renowned expert and investigator/attorney for human rights: Danny Sheehan. Here is a video he makes explain THE OIL IS BEING SHIPPED OVERSEAS to China. It was never meant for The USA.
“Between December 4 and December 7, veterans of various branches of the United States armed forces have scheduled a “deployment” to show solidarity and lend support to the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota. The event, called “Veterans Stand for Standing Rock,” already has 108 confirmed RSVPs on Facebook, and features several high-profile progressive activists who have served in the military, including U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) and Baltimore police officer-turned police brutality whistleblower Michael A. Wood, Jr.”
And they are ready, too. Event organizer Wes Clark Jr., says, “Bring Body armor, gas masks, earplugs AND shooting mufflers (we may be facing a sound cannon) but no drugs, alcohol or weapons.” Veterans can check out the Facebook event for rideshare info and even financial assistance for those who want to support the protest but need some financial help. They’ve also set up a GoFundMe page for the deployment which will be used to “provide material and logistical support to all the veterans wanting to join the Standing Rock protest from around the country”. In fact, they are half way to their goal of $100,000 and it’s only been 11 days.
Clark understands the need for veterans to support the protesters due to the excessive and heavy-handed militarized police response to the protests. Thus far protesters at Standing Rock have faced:
sniper guns pointed at unarmed civilians
journalists being shot with rubber bullets or arrested for covering the protests
attack dogs unleashed on groups- including children
elder Natives getting tased and violently arrested
protesters marked with numbers and kept in dog kennels after arrest
As you know, construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline- which would transport roughly half a million barrels of crude oil daily underneath the Missouri River- has been held up for months as the number of protectors continues to grow. Indigenous communities have said that the pipeline has the potential to permanently poison water supplies for millions of people who depend on the river for drinking, bathing, and farming.
Obama, are you listening yet?
Thank you so much to any veterans who take time out of their lives to go and not only protest this dangerous and illegal travesty but to, once again, protect the citizens of the United States.
