A longtime abortionist who has experienced trouble with the past when his medical license was withdrawn by regulators has now been indicted on federal charges of receiving and distributing child pornography.

And a team of pro-life activists who have been critical of the work of Ohio abortion provider Thomas William Michaelis in the past say they are horrified at what apparently went on.

“The fact that Michaelis target[ed] vulnerable children for his crimes for over two decades is particularly revolting. We hope he is sent to prison for a very long time,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who with Cheryl Sullenger has written about closing down abortion clinics in “Abortion Free: Your manual for building a Pro-Life America one Community at a time,” published by WND Books.

Local reports by CBS and the Toledo Blade both reported about the case.

CBS called him a former Toledo gynecologist, and the Blade called him a “Sylvania man,” but neither identified him as an abortionist.

The reports said Michaelis, 69, was facing charges of receiving and distributing child pornography images earlier this year.

“Authorities say he possessed and accessed with intent to view one or more Websites which contained depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between January and May,” CBS reported.

The reports did identify him as the “obstetrician” whose license to practice medicine was revoked by the Ohio State Medical Board in May 2014.

And they reported on his history, with a permanent revocation of his license in the 1990s when he was convicted of gross sexual imposition, voyeurism and public indecency.

The incidents reportedly involved girls who were friends with his daughter.

But then after a series of conditions were met, his license was reinstated, the reports said.
