Police draw weapons on Ben and Rachel Lohnen as they traveled to the hospital to deliver their baby.
IOWA — The birth of a couple’s baby girl was marred by excessive policing on the way to the hospital.
Ben and Rachel Lohnen were expecting their forth child, and in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 14th, 2014, the couple knew it was time.
Around 4:00 a.m., Mr. Lohnen packed his wife into the car and began to escort his pregnant wife to the hospital, post haste. The baby was three days past her due date.
Traveling quickly along a dark, empty Iowa highway, the Lohnens were spotted by a local traffic code enforcer. The officer turned his lights on and began to follow the couple, but the Lohnens didn’t feel they had time to deal with a speeding ticket before the baby arrived. Their priority was the safe delivery of their child.
