DAVIS, Okla. – A semi reportedly crossed the center median of Interstate-35 and struck a school bus carrying a college softball team Friday evening, resulting in at least three fatalities in this rural area of Oklahoma, about 50 miles north of the Texas border.

Local officials report the bus was carrying the women’s softball team from North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas. The team was returning from a softball game against Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Debi Zahn of Stratford, Iowa, was on her way to Dallas, Texas, when she got caught in the resulting traffic jam roughly a mile from the scene.

“At first, I thought they were airplanes flying past,” Zahn told WND. “Then I realized they were life-flight helicopters, one coming in, leaving, and another immediately taking its place in a non-stop stream.
